Buying an audio book does not require any specific guidelines or rules. As mentioned above, these are widely available in record bars, bookstores, and on the Internet so supply is not an issue. However, it does pay to know what you are buying, especially from the Internet. One important thing you need to make sure of is that you only download and buy audio books which are compatible with your media player. Otherwise, the books will be of no use to you since you cannot play them.
Another tip, especially if you downloaded the books from the Internet, is to always keep a back-up copy. You can either write it on a CD, store it on a USB flash drive, or save it in a secure folder on your computer. However, do not be tempted to make several copies and redistribute, much worse sell them, because such actions are illegal and can earn you jail time!
